When you call from Line, the person you call sees your Line number. You can also show a number that you already have, for example your office landline. First you verify that number in **Channels** › **Calls** › **External numbers**.

## Which number Line shows

| Call | Number the other person sees |
|------|------------------------------|
| You call from the dialler and pick a verified external number in **Show as** | Your external number |
| You call from the dialler and pick a Line number | Your Line number |
| You call from **Call** in an Inbox thread or on a contact | Your Line number |
| Line forwards a call with a **Forward Calls** step | Your Line number, not the caller's number |

> **Note:** If your workspace has more than one Line number, calls from the web app show the first Line number that your workspace got.

## Verify an external number

You need the **Owner** or **Admin** role.

1. Open **Channels**.
2. Select **Calls**.
3. Select **External numbers**.
4. In **Phone number**, type the number in international format, for example +447700900123.
5. Select **Call me**.
6. Answer the call on that phone.
7. When the call asks, key in the code that Line shows on the screen.
8. Wait until the status is **Verified**.

If the call does not come or the code fails, select **Call me again**.

The number shows under **Your business numbers** with one of these statuses:

| Status | What it means |
|--------|---------------|
| Verified | You can show this number on outgoing calls. |
| Pending | Line is waiting for you to key in the code. |
| Needs retry | The check failed. Select **Call me again**. |

To stop using a number, select **Remove**.

## Show your external number on a call

1. Select **New** (the **+** button) in the header bar.
2. Select **Make a Call**.
3. In **Show as**, select the number marked **(Your Number)**.
4. Type the number to call and select the green call button.

Line numbers in the list are marked **(Line)**.

## Move a verified number to Line

A verified number can also be ported to Line. On a verified number, select **Check eligibility**. Then select **Start port request**. See [Port your number to Line](https://useline.io/help/calls/port-your-number).

## Common problems

**The call says the selected caller ID is not verified.** The number is not verified, or someone removed it. Verify it again in **External numbers**.

**Show as does not list your number.** The number is not verified yet. Wait for **Verified**, then reload the page.
